7th Grade Guidance News
Welcome 7th graders. Now that you have adjusted to the middle school environment, this year will bring lots of new and different experiences.
This is an important year for students to learn the social skill of "Advocating for Oneself" which is beneficial inside and outside the classroom. Students that learn to advocate for themselves gain the following skills: build self-confidence, increase maturity, establish boundaries -physical and emotional and prevent others from taking advantage of them. By advocating for yourself, others will see you know how to be responsible and handle problems.
Steps for Advocating for Oneself:
1. Identify a situation in which you should advocate (stand up) for yourself
2. Remember to remain calm and use a pleasant or neutral voice tone
3. Describe your point of view or the outcome you desire
4. Give rationales (reasons) for advocating for yourself
5. Thank the person for listening
